U11 A Won 66 - 0
What a game, what a day! Matches against these smaller prep schools can be a bit of a lottery as they always improve their game against Felsted. So we went onto the pitch a little nervous and Dame Bradbury's were certainly a tenacious bunch. However, some solid tackling and some very good pieces of play meant that we scored a number of times in the first ten minutes. Dame Bradbury's certainly made hard work of it for us, but they seemed to get a little disillusioned as the fifth try went in. However our boys kept their composure and structure and went into half time ahead. A little restructuring of the team took place at half time to see how some other combinations might work. The boys coped admirably with this. We scored a number of well put together tries in the second half and started playing some good flowing rugby, and one of the parents put it very succinctly when he commented they looked very 'fluid'. The combination of the experience of the Year 6 boys and the enthusiasm and pace of the Year 5 boys seems to be working. A match like this should be quite a confidence booster but we must not get complacent as it is a rough road ahead.
U11B v Dame Bradburys Won 39 - 0
Tries J Oluwabusola, C Wallace, S M - Minett, C Connor, B Britton, R Hadley, T Summers (+1 con)
A really good team performance with all the boys trying to run straight and strong and looking to off-load the ball. It was also pleasing to see the backs trying to pass the ball quickly to give the wingers time and space. The scrum was strong and solid, winning some of the oppositions ball, which we used well. Well done to all the team.
U11D v St Margaret's, Felsted Quadrangular tournament Lost 40 - 25
A tough match against a St Margaret's team that had one very good player. We were 20-5 down at half time but we came back well with Matthew Hipkin running hard and scoring tries and pulling us back to within one score. However, St Margaret's scored late on to put the game away. There was plenty of learning and skill development in evidence and hopefully the boys enjoyed some match play.
